Review summary

Great cruise again with fab staff. Love the formal nights as well as the more casual evenings - it's all part of the fun!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was great; we waited approx. 20 mins in the car before it was our turn. Grabbed a porter and off we went. Had a bit of a moment with my husband's passport but it was all sorted very quickly. We were shown to a waiting area but we were there for barely five minutes before we were called to go through security and on to the ship. Total time was around 30 mins from arrival to boarding.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
MDR was great - I'm a veggie and currently gluten intolerant which is making life a bit difficult, but the waiter in charge of special dietary requirements looked after me extremely well. Even when I forgot to pre-order they still provided me with a lovely meal, and were very keen to give me gf rolls...I had to give them to my husband on a few occasions so I didn't add an extra two dress sizes instead of just the one :D The buffet was fine, always something for me to eat even if it was salad, and they were always varied. P&O also do the best ever scrambled eggs! Sindu was lovely as always. We booked two evenings there, the first evening felt a bit rushed and ended abruptly with no-one bringing a final bill or saying goodnight - it was a bit odd. The second night was much better and friendlier though. The Beach House was ok, only went once as there wasn't much on the menu for me really - in fact their menu hasn't changed for over five years so is well overdue for an update. Service was great though. Sadly, there was nothing for at the Glass House, which was a shame as I loved eating there on board Azura. The wine list was a bit disappointing too - something I was looking forward to! The Epicurean was fantastic, but almost empty which was a shame. I didn't enjoy it on my first visit several years ago, but it has changed for the better - and the husband was actually full after his meal which is almost unheard of!

Onboard Activities

We didn't take part in any activities but we could certainly hear them. I am not an old misery and I love my music, but the afternoon music from the Lido deck was ridiculously loud. I could hear it over my earbuds in the Retreat - when we walked through the bar and grill staff were shouting and being shouted at just to be heard.

Entertainment

The Live Lounge

5 out of 5

We only went to one event which was the Rock night - it was full and the atmosphere was fantastic! People actually cheered when certain songs came on which should prove to P&O's entertainment team that a little more variation in their music choices would be much appreciated! Pulse were not bad and the guitarists were finally able to show their skills a bit more. Great evening!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was fantastic - the guys in the Retreat, the Spa and the bars. Our steward was lovely too - they all work so hard and have to be smiling and polite when they must want to be rude to many people! The only problems we encountered were with staff at reception - the problem was resolved eventually, but not terribly enthusiastically and they did seem terribly bothered.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I've read many comments about the odd design of Britannia and complaints about lifts etc. It is what it is - you just get used to it and move on! I get lost coming out of shops quite frankly, so I've resigned myself to never knowing how to get anywhere... The ship was pretty clean, but some of the shared area toilets were pretty shocking. The ship is definitely looking a bit tatty in some areas too, with dirty windows and rusting paintwork. I understand it must be difficult to get chance to clean and repair when the ship is constantly sailing, but some areas definitely need attention.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
No problems, clean with a fab big balcony. Bed was comfortable and large, the sofa ended up as a wardrobe as usual even though there was plenty of storage dpace in the real one. TV playback was a bit glitchy.

Ship tip

If you're worried about the lack of centre stairwell, book your cabin wisely so you are located near the lifts or the side stairs.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We went for breakfast in the buffet and vacated our cabin by 8 am, then went to our allotted station. We waited in the Headliner's Theatre for about 10 minutes after which someone came to tell us that everything was going to plan. Five minutes later we were told to head to the gangways - we queued for another 5 and were headed out of the carpark by 9.38.
