Review summary

Pleasant overall for a group holiday, well organised Fly-Cruise experience but ship dated, food and beverage selection and quality 'so-so', with fantastic evening entertainment.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Cruise included flight and transfer. Quickly escorted from coach at port, checked in and boarded within 20minutes. Bags taken straight to cabin

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Countless items "not available" on breakfast and bar menus. P&O really need to rationalise the menus to reflect this. We ended up asking when staff took our orders "before we start, what HAVE you actually got for us to choose from?" Food and pots of tea never hot. Always warm to cooling. Staff in restaurants disorganised and chaotic, rather than dedicated one or two staff to a set of tables, lots of them seemed to be doing small jobs for lots of tables. No continuity so nobody checking if drinks needed refilled or food OK. A new waiter who boarded that day, looked after us on night 7.... apart from an evening at a very empty specialty restaurant, he offered us the most attention and best service all week!

Spectacular experience compared to other eateries onboard. Food delicious

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Some of the best shows and performers we have seen. Having multiple shows in different venues at night made it difficult to choose sometimes. Special mention to the Elton John tribute and Mary Mac drag cabaret. Brilliant!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff did seem down, didn't smile and had no social chat in most restaurants, particularly Oriental. Stewards always friendly as were the spa team.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is tired. Dated decor in bedroom and the showers in our cabins were tiny... I would hate to have an oversized belly, not sure it would fit in such a shower!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Pros: great walk in wardrobe area and good selection of movies on the TV. Cons: Tired decor and tiny shower.

Ship tip

If you like a "very English" experience for a cruise, this will be for you. Staff very friendly on deck, but with only 2 or 3 kids onboard, the corny and loud daytime deck activities were a little off-putting. Some more pleasant, classical background music could suffice at times in place of UK top 40 assortments blasting through the restaurants and pool areas. I don't think we will be sailing P&O again but it was nice to get away and we were glad we tried it.
