Arrived 30 minutes early, on ship within 10 minutes of arriving. Our quickest slickest embarkation to date

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet was excellent. Only used for breakfast, which I could not fault. MDR - superb food, service, choice and setting. An absolute faultless dining experience. Beach house - always excellent food here. Auroras beach house is no exception. Sindhu: food and service were fantastic. However the sindhu on Oriana and azura felt a bit more intimate.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Loved the pools. The terrace pool is a lovely spot. Obviously the pool with the retractable roof is a popular spot, so sun lounger availability is sometimes limited. Often beds are taken up by invisible people. They are there! Not always visible for hours at a time, but obviously lying on their towels which aren’t invisible!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Shows and guest acts were excellent. Only draw back is you have to get to some venues early to guarantee a seat.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The friendliest staff in the P&O fleet. Especially the MDR staff. Captain Pembridge isn’t the most vocal or visible around the ship. Other crew members were very informative during the behind the scenes tour.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
A beautiful ship. Lovely venues, tiered stern, prom deck. Atrium doesn’t have the wow of oceana but is still a lovely place to be. I do the prefer the medium sized ships, and aurora did not disappoint. I did like Oriana (auroras older sister) but I think Aurora is as perfect, if not slightly nicer. Surprisingly it took me a little longer to familiarise myself with the layout than the other ships I’ve been on. I can’t tell you why! Cleanliness and general upkeep were first class.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Slightly larger outside cabin. Plenty of hanging space for clothes. Forward facing cabin. So the picture on the deck cam is what you see out of the window. Bed is under the window. Very clean and well maintained. Could not fault it.

Ship tip

Arrive early to carmens to catch the show as it’s quite a small venue. Same goes for the theatre if it’s a comedian.

Ports of call

La Palma, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Pretty island. Was very hot on this day so it was a find shade day. Very green island. Interestingly on our tour cumbre vieja wasn’t mentioned as much as I thought it would be, but the plant life was what the tour guide seemed very interested and passionate about.

SOUTHAMPTON

5 out of 5
Always a nice feeling when arriving into Southampton docks!

Tenerife, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
Just had a wander round the town. Nothing to write home about. Didn’t book a tour (my error) but was glad for just a quiet day.

Lanzarote

5 out of 5
I really enjoyed our trip to the fire mountain. Tour guide was brilliant (the Spanish for Jamie) Lanzarote itself is very volcanic. Black landscape but strangely hypnotic. Because of the tour and spectacle of the fire mountain this was probably my favourite port.

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5
We did the cable car and toboggan. Was good fun! Madeira is quite a beautiful place.

La Coruna, Spain

5 out of 5
Have been here before, so stayed on the ship to chill before journey back home.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Slight delay on disembarkation. Otherwise no problems. Was sad to say goodbye to aurora. Oceana is the only other ship I’m disappointed to leave. So aurora obviously left a good impression.
