Review summary

2 day booze cruise not for families. Never again!!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Given the pandemic the embarkation was faultless! Very efficient and straight on with minimal fuss. Job well done 👍🏻

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Service was slow and queues for MDR even when booked times given. Food was average and not very hot. Appeared to be short staffed and couldn’t keep up. Ordered a fish curry which was just sauce no fish at all! Did get it replaced with a bowel that contained the fish though. Ran out of wine as well not great. However, staff were polite as always and did what they could. Not anywhere near as good as previous RC cruises I’ve been on.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Unable to get on anything! Everything booked up on first day by or reserved for “key” holders. Kids loved the pool but for the rest of us just a lot of stuff we couldn’t do!

Entertainment

1 out of 5
We were really looking forward to seeing the We Will Rock You show and cut short our shore time to get back to see it only to have it cancelled 30 mins before. No afternoon show to replace it and all sun beds taken by then. As all other activities booked up left us at a loose end with not much to do!

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
I gave 3 stars because there just wasn’t enough! The ones working gave there all and did really well and very very polite. They were just too stretched and couldn’t provide the usual RC experience.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
This is a subjective one. The ship has loads of great features and spectacular artworks yet it just doesn’t work! I realise this is my opinion but nothing flows and loads of dead ends that lead to nowhere. There’s no proper promenade deck to walk around and get to the front helipad either. It was very clean throughout (until the stag/hen parties hit their stride anyway) but again with what appeared to be limited staff could not always keep up. It’s a nice ship but it’s not for me.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice cabin and very clean. Big balcony however not very private and set back above the smoking area on deck 5 so quite noisy at night. Only a 2 day cruise with lots of stag/hen parties this time so may not always be the case.

Ship tip

Ensure before you leave the UK see if you have a pending “pre authorisation” transaction on your account and contact the bank or approve in app before you lose your signal or switch to airplane mode!

Ports of call

Le Havre (Paris), France

Nice walk around and some interesting shops. 5 euro pp shuttle bus but unable to walk off working dock so I felt should be provided for free. Not at all scenic where the ship is docked but the town is nice.

Disembarkation

It was a total sh*t show! got to scan off to be told guest services had a message for us . Turns out so did a 3rd of the passengers! 2 hours queuing to pay a bill when cards already registered. The queue was still as long as it was when we joined behind us when we were done! For all the smart arses saying it’s our fault call the bank first… we did and it still didn’t work. We were still on the ship when they decided to announce it was an issue with pre authorisations and they were having to do it manually so no fault of the passengers at all. Given the queue, and the fact disembarking had opened 2 hours before we found out, I would guess at least a third of passengers had this issue from the amount queuing if not more!

Sandy73 it was a problem with various card providers both debit and credit. It really did affect lots of people and at least a 3rd on board is not an exaggeration!

If its natwest we always have issues paying our bill

I avoid short cruise’s for the reasons you describe

Like I’ve said in my review it wasn’t all bad. We had a break in the sun and it was ok. Just think the marketing needs to be targeted better. You live and learn and we’ll still cruise again for sure. Now we know what the short cruises are about and felt an honest review may help other people make a more informed decision before booking 👍🏻

Rcl should be honest about what was obviously a booze cruise.

Sorry that was a bad experience. It is not unreasonable to get what was advertised. If you are not familiar with cruising, you couldn't be expected to know to avoid short cruises.

Thanks for sharing

Sorry you didn’t get the family break you wanted, at least you know for future to avoid short cruises, as you’re right the cruiselines are not going to advertise them as booze cruises even if that’s what a lot of people may book them for!

Deb1208 yes we sailed from Southampton and had to do a supervised antigen (LFT) within 2 days of departure. Really easy.

SneakyPete    2 years ago

Ummm It wasn’t advertised as a booze cruise so I was expecting a family break which is how it was advertised. Not too difficult to understand really 🙄

PaulzyJC    2 years ago

Uhmm..the last booze cruise I went on was in Cancun and saw ZERO kids and families... So what exactly were you expecting on a BOOZE CRUISE??!

Deb1208    2 years ago

Hi did you sail from Southampton? Did you have to test at port or just a lateral test at chemist ?

SneakyPete    2 years ago

Anyone “should” know it “might be” that makes sense 🤔… Really a holiday advertised as “family friendly” should be “family friendly” seemed more of an obvious assumption 🤷🏼‍♂️

Anyone who books a 2-3 day should know it might be a booze cruise for some!
