Mediocre at best. I hoped for more for our Babymoon!

Review summary
My husband and I have been on 4 cruises together and multiple cruises before then. Before our most recent cruise, we were aboard the Allure of the Seas leaving from Rome. When I saw Anthem of the Seas leaving from NJ to Bermuda I thought it’d be perfect for our Babymoon since the Anthem was similar to Allure of the Seas. The similarities ended with the boat’s features, the cruise as a whole was not comparable to the Allure of the Seas. Below I’ve broken down some of the pros and cons:
Rooms: We had a balcony (obstructed view) room 6689. The room was fine, we really can’t complain. The obstruction was a life boat right in front of our window, but that didn’t bother us since we knew we were getting an obstructed view. The room was large enough for us to be comfortable and it was well kept, as was the rest of the ship.
Staff: As far as staff is concerned, this was by far the worst cruise my husband and I have ever been on. The level of customer service was far below expectation. Staff did not smile, it’s truly that simple, but to go further into detail, wait staff genuinely seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Bartenders and food servers had a constant look of annoyance on their face, and typically responded with an attitude. We also encountered many other passengers who felt the same way. That was one of the easiest way to make friends on the boat. Once you made a comment about the level of service, everyone wanted to join the conversation. We did come across 2 amazing servers though, Deccy at the Solarium Bistro and Anna from Boleros were both phenomenal. They were smiling and friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay great.
Food/Restaurants: Overall, the food was fine. We had my time dining and ate Solarium Bistro and Wonderland. To start, my time dining and the Solarium Bistro are similar food, but Solarium is partially buffet (appetizers and desserts) and partially sit down (dinner). The Solarium was definitely less crowded, and Anna, our server, was amazing, but the feel of the regular restaurant was much more like you’re going to a restaurant. Wonderland was absolutely amazing! It’s truly an experience that everyone on board should have. I don’t want to ruin anything, but the food is more than dinner, it’s a full experience. Don’t miss out!
Shows: To be honest, we only went to The School of Rock and I definitely enjoyed it. It was well done and a fun up beat play. There was some sort of power outage for about 3 minutes in the middle of the program and no one said anything. It would have been nice if someone let us know what was going on instead of sitting in the dark, but once the lights came back on the rest of the show went off without a hitch. I heard good things about Spectra, and although we didn’t get to see it, we did have 2 of the singers come out to the Schooner Bar and they both had beautiful voices and personalities.
Cruise itinerary: There’s not much to write about. The itinerary was absent. There was NOTHING to do! On one of the at sea days, we were walking around trying to find something to do and we encountered 3 young teens (11-15ish) sitting on the elevator talking to everyone that came in because they were bored. They’d said they were there for about an hour already because they had nothing else to do. I feel like that says it all! They had your typical trivia, belly flop, etc., but the trivia host for the one time we went (Battle of the Sexes) was monotone and the questions were all about world history… The Cruise Director and Assistant were awesome, they had great personalities and put on an amazing show at the Lip Sync Battle and The Quest Game Show.
Overall, since we were so bored, we were definitely able to relax which was good for a Babymoon, but I would never recommend this cruise nor would I ever return to this ship. Customer service can make or break a vacation, and they definitely played a large role in our vacation.
