Review summary

Anthem of the seas needs to be overhauled by Royal Caribbean. Most of the ships staff acted as though they did not want to be there in assisting anyone. The royal esplanade is only walkable at 6am when everyone is still sleeping. The food was just ok. The dining staff in windjammer was not good. When I was at the pasta station the server just walked away without even saying he needed to go to the back to get something. The bars for the exception of vintages were terrible. The bartenders wouldn't even talk to us.  The only thing they would ask is if we wanted anything to drink. The fitness centers machines always had half of them out of order.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin I was great for the exception of the bed. Mattress was super firm. Almost like sleeping on a board. The stateroom attendant put padding that helped a bit.

Ship tip

If you don't like a mattress that is a small hard as a rock ask your stateroom attendant to put extra padding! The beds are terrible.

I sailed on Anthem to Bermuda last October. On the plus side, the ship is very pretty, especially the public areas on decks 4 and 5. The 270 Lounge is a nice place to hang out. I had an outside view stateroom on deck 9 forward. The room was absolutely gorgeous! The crew was nice, I did not find a single crew member that was anything less than friendly and helpful. The bumper cars were a lot of fun. I didn't get to ride the NorthStar, that was my fault. The cons: The quality of the food was uneven. The best meal I had was the first night in the American Icon Grill. The worst meal hands-down was at The Grande. At the time the now former dynamic dining was still in place. It seemed to me the restaurants competed for your business. I really didn't care for that. The Royal Esplanade was really crowded on sea days. Those are my major complaints. But, overall I had a nice time.

What do you expect a bartender to ask?

We just disembarked this ship and I do not have a single bad thing to say. From the moment we stepped foot on the ship to the moment we left ( a group of 11 ranging in age from 5 to 62) we experienced nothing less than an attentive, knowledgeable crew! This is our families 2nd aboard this ship, we loved it so much we have already booked our 3rd trip(and added 4 more family members lol).

I was on back in November, and my son and parents are probably getting on the ship as you read this... This ship was/is AMAZING ... Honestly, your vacation is what you make of it. if you're a miserable person all yr, no matter what ship you're on, you'll be miserable on vacation too... prior to my cruise in November, there was a butt load of negative reviews, and I have to say. I was definitely nervous. Bit I tell you what. EVERYTHING written was such BS... The ship, food, rooms, people, ports were absolutely awesome. they all couldn't of been more wrong. There is something to do, for every age group. if anything I could complain about, would be the casino didn't pay out like previous ships/cruises. Bit I usually have bad luck. I did see multiple people being paid out, just wasn't my turn... That's the ONLY complaint... Hope this helps...

I respect the option although I don't agree. Yes, I was not 'wow-ed' by the food. On our cruises on  nthem the staff weren't 5 star but also weren't 1 star. Yes, the esplanade can be tight when crowds are there but that is true in any confined space. We ourselves enjoyed Anthem but more so on our second cruise than our first. Two70 is a great venue and the solarium is super. We would do another Anthem cruise again in a heartbeat. It isn't a ship for everyone though.

A new ship needs to be overhauled??? I disagree. I have sailed on her multiple times and have found the crew to be the best trained in the fleet. They are a happy crew. The bartenders were awesome, very talkative, with heavy thumbs. The entertainment venues on the ship are among the best in the fleet. The headline show "We Will Rock You" came directly from the West End in London. North Star is only available on the Quantum class of ships. The same applies to the 270 lounge. The size of the cabins is larger than the other ships in the fleet by 10% . I am back on her in July. I will have Riccio as my waiter in Chops, again and will have Francisco as my waiter in Jamie's Italian for the 7th time. There is nothing on the ship that needs to be overhauled.
