There are a lot of charges on this line which are free on other lines. Too much time wasted standing in line for elevators, for dinner etc.s and you need reservations for everything.  Never Again

a billion people in the world have no toilets, yet we complain about waiting a few minutes for an elevator to a grand meal.

The room service fee is new to Royal but Norwegian has had it for a maybe a year now. Same amount, 7.95.

On the same cruise as bigrockhead55.  My wife and I are veterans of 9 cruises, but we hadn't cruised on Royal since The Song of America in 94. After going on Anthem of the Seas, I remembered why. Some of the same problems still exist.  Long wait for elevators (too long), we never knew when buffet would be open (never a problem when we sailed on Carnival or Norwegian),  room service fee (none on CCL or NCL), and in my opinion, too many specialty restaurants to take your money.  I will say the Royal still has the most beautiful ships I've sailed on, and the entertainment is top notch.   This said, my wife and I are going give Royal another chance and sail with them again next year.  Hopefully the service will be improved and the bottom line isn't the main priority (or at least fake like is isn't).

When we were on Harmony we did stand in line sometimes but once whatever opened the line moved quickly. It was never an issue. One way we got around it was to not be so early for things.

There us always room service, Sorento's pizza, Windjammer cafe.....use your imagination! I have sailed on Anthem 3 times since October of last year, and never had a problem. I guess maybe I'm more patient and less worried about a few minutes in a line when I'm on a luxury vacation!

If you are capable, do the stairs. It's good cardio especially with a wk of indulgence.

Have always had assigned dining time and table. That was the only thing we didn't like on the getaway. Shows times on Royal fit dining times so you can go before or after dinner.

Norwegian's mega ship requires reservations as well. Only Quantum and Oasis class ships require reservations on Royal. Also, with no cruise history and no details it's hard to know what you're being charged for that other lines have free. NCL, CCL and RCL tend to be very similar.

The size of RC's newer ships and quantity of passengers warrants the use of reservations. Could you imagine everyone arriving at the same place at the same time? You'd be even more upset with the crowds and not being able to find a seat.
