American Eagle

7 Night Maine Coast & Harbors (Portland Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 05, 2023

Ship: American Eagle

Cabin number: 2

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 11 months ago

Review summary

American Cruise Line is offering this cruise to the Maine Harbors on the peak weeks before the winter chill sets in. With limited capacity (that is what we LOVE!) you should book, early, to reserve your spot. This new design is "spot on" and is carefully curated, I believe, by the comments and suggestions of the cruise line's loyal following.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The pastry chef exceled! Food was great and there were traditional favorites and dishes with a local flare - of COURSE we had lobster!

Back Porch Café

5 out of 5

Our favorite spot for a burger when you want to sit on back deck with a glass of wine during lunch.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Fun games like Trivia and BINGO and daily arts and crafts classes. Lectures on Maine Wildlife and history as well as a culinary demonstration

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Each night, after dinner, a guest artist performed - either a musician or, my favorite, a comedian.

Children's Programs

There were no children onboard

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Ken, our room steward was the first friendly face we encountered and he kept his cheerful greeting throughout the 7 day voyage. Andy, the hotel manager, was a great overseer and tooks special care of guests that needed a little extra attention due to medical conditions. Cruise Director, Anyssa ALWAYS had a smile on her face and the greatest attitude.

Ship Quality

We loved everything about the new 'coastal cat!" Perfect size and appealing, class act decor.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very spacious room with a private balcony and a king sized bed. Lots of storage and a great double shower head!

Ship tip

Your disembarkation will be a seamless as when you arrive! Every staff member excelled!

Highly recommend the Lobstering and Lighthouse Cruise to see the captain check on the 'catch' in their own lobster traps. Great lighthouses, too!

Recommend the coastal Maine Botanical Gardens self guided tour and the harbor cruise.

The guide at the Maine Maritime Museum will give you a true impression of what it was like during the great shipbuilding times along the Kennebec River.
