This was the first RCCL cruise after COVID. Overall it was a successful cruise. Covid protocols are still evolving and they do affect the entire cruising experience. What was evident to us was that safety was the focal point of the cruise but the safety protocol did not overwhelm the entire cruising experience and we were able to have an enjoyable time. RCCL staff did a great job to keep us happy!!!!
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Port of Nassau doesn’t have a terminal and RCCL arranged for the embarkation process to be done at British Colonial Hilton hotel which is located near the ship dock. At the hotel they collected our luggage and immediately loaded it onto vehicles for transfer to the ship. This was a full vaccinated cruise, we had to show vaccination documentation and had to take a COVID 19 rapid test that was administered by Bahamian medical testing agency… cost was absorbed by RCCL. Results were emailed to our mobile phones within 15 minutes. Negative results were verified by RCCL staff and we were allowed to board a shuttle that took us to the ship. Prior to boarding the ship we went through aBahamian security check and we had to show our passports and Bahamian health visa. At the ship the embarkation process was very smooth .
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Due to COVID-19 all dining facilities followed strict social distancing protocols. Everyone entering Windjammer had to go through a checking in process (sea pass was scanned each time). There was a separate way to enter and exit and upon exit sea passes were scanned again. The Windjammer and main dining room seating was limited to 50% capacity, every other table was closed off. This created no problems because the ship was sailing at only 30% capacity. The buffet at the Windjammer was modified… cold food like salads etc. was prepared ahead of time and placed on small plates for guests to take. Hot food was placed on guests plates by servers. Food quality was excellent but fewer items available. Main Dining room menus were electronic but paper menus were available also.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
All large group activities/gatherings were cancelled such as captains reception, promenade parades, dance parties, etc. theater seating was at less than 50% capacity. Every other seating row and every other two seats were closed off. Reservations were required for every show. Show performances were very high quality and very entertaining.
Fitness center was limited to 15 people at a time with reservations only. There were no Pool deck contests like the “belly flop” or the “sexy legs “ competition. Overall it felt like a very quiet and relaxing type cruise. This cruise was not for party goers but perfect for us. There were very few children onboard. All 12 and under unvaccinated individuals had to wear masks in all public areas.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Stage shows were of very high quality. We enjoyed the production show as well as the ice show. The performers were very professional. The headliner shows were also good
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service staff went beyond what was required of them to please the guests. This was evident throughout the entire cruise . They were very attentive and sensitive to everyone’s needs. We couldn’t ask for a better service.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Adventure of the Seas is an older ship and needs some modernization. Nevertheless, the ship was extremely clean and well maintained. The layout with the central promenade was very attractive and efficient .
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We booked a Junior Suite which had plenty of storage and adequate room for the two of us. The cabin was very clean, had a coffee maker and equipped with two bath robes. It only had one electrical outlet.
Disembarkation
4 out of 5
Can’t comment on the disembarkation because we are still on the last day of this cruise and we have booked a back- to-back cruise on this ship for next week.
We are at the airport now, and will be joining you for the 06/19 trip, I have been following the bloggers all week and are finally caught up with all the red tape required for entry. Looking forward to some much anticipated cruise time
Glad to see you are having a wonderful cruise! Thank you for your comments and updates. It sounds like the shut down gave Royal plenty of time to make sure that cruises are safe for crew and passengers and that the cruise experience is not diminished. Adventure is a great ship! We are so looking forward to our return to cruising on Allure on August 8th!
