All I can say is take your time and take it all in. Ellis Island has a lot to see and learn from, so just don't rush it.

Though you are required to get timed tickets to take the ferry over to the islands there is no timed entry to either attraction. The national park dolcents do not regulate how long people take to tour inside either monument so allow at least 4 hours minimum for the statue and another 2 for the buildings at Ellis, plus the transit time which varies depending on which pier you are leaving from.
