We had same situation last year in PC. Our daughters' passports weren't renewed so we had to use their BC. We all had to use the BC/Normal line instead of the PP/facial recognition line. It was a much longer line, but it still went fairly quickly.

as in all travel scenarios, if you want to stay together...you hang out with the person with the lesser credentials

I believe that they will let your son on with just a birth certificate, but it doesn’t hurt to make sure 👍

we just got off in Port Canaveral and they did not ask to see our passports at debarkation.

I have a passport and my husband and son have birth certificates. We all went through the birth certificate line. It was pretty streamlined and quick.

If you are leaving in a few days you can get your son passport the same day. At the passport office! I would recommend that.

Do know the birth certificate line is often minimal. Do early exit if you’re time crunched.

no! you need passport for facial recognition.. he will have to go in bc line.

Your son will need to take the Birth Certificate line both embarking and debarking. This will be much slower for him both ways! Facial recognition is often used for those with Passports and he'll get flagged by US Customs if he tries to use the wrong line.

You should get a passport for your son so he will have it.
