Great question! On our first cruise we wondered as well! I called Royal and got the refreshment drink package and WiFi and used my onboard credit!!!!! When we got onboard we also received an additional credit in which I put towards my gratuities……

There are different types of cruise credits and many cruise lines. Some credits are non-refundable and can’t be used for certain things. Once again, post under your cruise line. You won’t get an entirely accurate answer.
