Qaqortoq, Greenland Port Reviews

Quite a few passengers remarked after we got back on board that perhaps the people living in Qaqortoq should spend some of their winter months making things that the tourists would love to take home from such a unique place. There was just one tourist shop and it almost sold out of goods and it was extremely busy.

Greenland is beautiful - not very green...we did another hike - Hike around the lake - this one is strenuous! The beginning is fairly easy however, the ground is boggy. At the halfway point the it changes drastically to rocks and climbs both up and down. Not at all suitable for people with any difficulties walking. Qaqortoq is not as scenic as Nanortalik; the end of the walk is through a rather junky/trashy area and, there was not place for lunch.

Nice little town to walk through. You could walk around the lake but that was a bit too far for us. There is a staircase from which the view is very nice.

Greenland is a bucket list destination and did not disappoint

Poor little town 😀, so much potential! A native Inuit village. Visited the general store, two grocery stores, the small museum. Failed to find a place for a small lunch, as the nice-looking local sports bar was closed and the hotel restaurant was up too far on a hill. We really enjoyed walking and looking at a small group of crafters outside the visitor center, which was too jammed to shop in. Take it for what it is, a slice of daily life in the far north. But 10 hours there is too long, unless you get the helicopter tour, that is weather dependent. Those who went on the house visit really liked it, abundance of food.

Tender boat to the pier. We saw a fish processing place that was fascinating. There were lots of rock sculptures. We walked to the Town square where the oldest fountain in Greenland is.

Did a "Greenlanders" excursion - coffee and chat with a local. The town is small (3500 people) but very interesting to walk around. Lots of colorful houses. Had to tender into town, but well worth it.

Worth seeing but not worth going to see. I would not return there are nicer places to see, I think the real Greenland is Ireland from what I have seen during my visits.
