Very much a commercial port, with some shopping opportunities.

Went on a circle tour including the visit to James Norman Hall's home, writer of "Mutiny on the Bounty". Really informative. Our tour guide was well informed and a good photographer.

The tahitian pearl market has great variety. The local market is fairly good but overpriced.

We signed up for the Paul Gaugan tour. We thought our tour included time at a lovely garden. Museum was OK but our tour person was useless and couldn't anser the our questions. I followed a different tour director around near the end when I overheard her speak.

I almost drowned on a local snorkeling adventure, which was not adventurous at all; no communication with the local operators. I had to be rescued due to a very rough current. Never again.
