Another working port, which is also close to the airport. We did on our first day the husky sledge ride, a must for anyone going to Alta. Our second day we did the Ive hotel which is truly amazing. the evening we did the hunt the Northern lights tour, it’s was brilliant and had some great sightings

First time here the town is very spread out over a number of miles, here to see the Northern Lights. Like Tromso Alta is extremely cold this year for November by 13:45 its dark and minus 13 deg C by 1:00am it’s -20C. Again don.t book a ship excursion to see the Northern lights it was about £220pp for that they were taken to a local football field in town 200+ people not enough spaces to warm up in. Book with Paeskatun Tours to go to their slate quarry in the mountain. They are a Sami family who run the quarry and do various tours you can book them direct or via Alta tourist office

Visited here in 2015as part of Northern Lights cruise with Saga. We were there overnifht, but being a small sjip, we were berthed quite close to the town on an industrial berth (opposite side of the bay from where cruise ships normally berth). Thus, for adventurous people, it was possible to walk into the town although a shuttle bus was provided to. We visited the ice hotel and also an excursion to seek the lights (both trips complimentary) and our red jackets (provided by the ship) were much needed. Didnt get much chance to see the town - wpuld be interesting to see it in rhe summer.
