If your first time then yes. Most tours will include all the major sights eg The reclining Buddha, The Gold Buddha, Royal Palace and even a long boat to see the Floating Market etc. The tours usually get back late in the evening but Laem Chabang is an overnight so no problem. Local tour operators pick up and drop off at the port. Make sure you change corridor Thai Baht. Standard local tipping is 20 Baht in restaurants or Bars etc.

It has been a long time since I did that trip. As a suggestion, I would have a list of things that you want to do to ensure you make the most of your trip to Bangkok.

We are on our way to Bangkok in a week’s time. Will visit three weeks before joining our cruise. We love Bangkok and feel it’s one of the most wonderful cities in the world. Sadly though, when you have just a day to visit, port is a long way from city and face it, traffic is daunting, I might save it for another trip. You might be turned off to Bangkok if you have a rushed visit. Pattaya is closer at hand, I’d opt for a leisurely visit there. Of course there is no comparison. Wish you had more time to discover Bangkok.

Are you there in port overnight? Some people stay in a hotel overnight and come back rmto Laem Chabang next day. Or if you disembark there and have an overnight, you could ask the ship if you can disembark early.

without traffic it's at least a 2 hour ride by car. Some passengers took 4 hrs to returnI wasn't overly impressed with Bangkok, unless you really like temples
