Use mobile Suica card for city bus. Went to Goryokaku by bus 5. Lots of cherry trees around this castle. It will be astonishing if we can visit Sakura season.

Not as commercial and great natural beauty. A little cool depending on when you arrive.

Walked to the Hakodate Ropeway (cable car) for a really pleasant trip to the top of Mount Hakodate. Great views all around at the spacious summit and a nice restaurant.

As many parts of Japan, there are beautifull gardens by the mall next to the port. We took a risk and drove all the way up to lake Toya and visited also the kumakuma bears nearby. Not enough time to take a ride in the cable car to the volcano.

Not a whole lot here but scenic.

Walked through the town to the "Red Brick Warehouses" shopping area, passing by some fresh fish shops with tanks of swimming fish for sale (including one tank with a huge octopus). The Warehouse shops were diverse and had a wide varity of shops, but seemed pricey compared to the other ports. We considereed taking the Mt. Hakodate ropeway to the top of Mt. Hakodate, but the strong winds made us decide not to.

Pretty city, and good train access but these big ships have to dock so far out, that there is no easy access to anything.

A second large port city on the northern island. Took a tour but only remember that the tour guide spoke better English here.

We freelanced in Hakodate, I spent high school years there when I was young so I still remembered some of touristy areas. We spent all day touring the city, rode city tram and had a very good time.
