Beautiful place that we loved. A trolley will take you around the main sites and give a history. Went punting, or a boat ride, which was wonderful and informative. Took a funicular up I guess a mountain for amazing views. Hint, take the funicular later in the day and then take a bus from there back to the ship. Easier than going all the way back to town.

We did Punting on the Avon excursion. Booked this last minute and loved this tour. Perfect sunny day on the river and the adjacent Botanical Gardens! WOW

Loved going into city on our own after our excursion. Shuttle bus was excellent

Did the High Country explorer, went on jet boats on the river, and traveled a little high up the foot hills. Great fun on the river. Also learned about the city of Christchurch as we were taken out of town. Done a lot there since the earthquake.

So laid back and friendly for a city. Lots of things to do.

We did a ship excursion to the Canterbury Sheep Farm. It was a nice tour and the family farm we visited was fun and educational. We watched different styles of sheep dogs herding the sheep plus watched two sheep get sheared. The offered food was delicious and the bathroom clean. Very nice experience but if you can do this with a smaller group than the full tour bus, I would advise it.
