The little Hirota-Jinja Shrine is breathtaking. Especially the japanese garden across street. We went there early and it was so peaceful and relaxing. Nabuta museum is a must. A-factory is a house sells local products and food but more western style. You can go to fish market, they have some sushi and ramen restaurants in there.

Art, crafts and farming summarize it. So many things made out of apples. It was overwelming and hard to chose what to buy. But so is in other parts of Japan. We pay to get to the 13th floor in the building that looks like an Onigiri and had a nice view of the surroundings. We didn't got far because we needed rest at this part of our journey. But still you get a tasted of Aomory from the port. By the way the apple burger was delicious!!

We went on an excursion to Hirosaki Castle Park to view sakura (cherry blossoms). Beautiful views, with flowers, castle and mountains. Friendly guide. Might choose a different excursion or just walk around town at another time of year if no blossoms to view, though.

Beautiful area where we happen to catch the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom (all other ports had peaked a week or more before). We took the train to Hirosaki (about 45 minute ride) and hoped on local bus to the Castle park. This was a beautiful giant park with beautiful grounds. It happened to be during their Cherry Blossom festival so there were lots of food booths set up. We saw the Castle and then visited Nebuta Mura museum accross the street. We got to see some of the giant paper Nebuta floats they carry through the streets during that festival. Saw demonstrations on playing the shamisen (guitar) and taiko drum. I got to play the drum!
