We spent the day at the beach Cove swimming in the water, watching the surfers been doing a bit of shopping. It’s one of our favorite memories there’s really no need to take a tour when you can just experience the beauty of the island at the Cove.

Not much to do

Kauai is breathtakingly beautiful. We purchased a resort pass for a daybed at the Royal Sonesta which is walking distance from the port. Highly recommend because the pool and beach are fantastic here. Next day, we took an island tour that included a short river cruise and the fern grotto. All lovely.

First day in Kauai we did Kauai Director's Cut and Luau Kalamaku. Director's Cut was on a smaller bus, maybe 20 - 25 people. Our guide Miss K was awesome and very engaging. She was also our driver to the Luau (completely by chance) and then we got to see her dance in the Luau. We thought Luau Kalamaku was great. Plenty of options for food. Show was fantastic. The fire dancers were my favorite!

Captain did not dock ship due to sea swells and the limited mobility of passengers & average age of 75.

Rented a car for 2 days. Did a Napoli Coast Sunset Cruise with Blue Dolphins Adventures, it was great. Also, swung by Wailua Falls and saw the Fantasy Island waterfall, drove through the Tunnel of Tress and saw Spouting Horn. On day 2 we drove to Waimea Canyon and made a few other stops. We really enjoyed this island.

Took a 5-hour bus tour. Hard to understand the coach driver; spent a half hour at the crater.

We took the ship's (overpriced) island tour. It was OK - there were a lot of scenic views and included a boat ride to the "Fern Grotto" - scenic, but maybe over-rated.
