Port was okay, but not attractive. As in Maui, we also rented a car for sightseeing. I think we got to see more by going on our own.

I got to see a neat waterfall located here. We also took a tour of a macadamia nut factory. It was interesting.

Once again the port is in a ship yard so there is nothing in walking distance to do or see. Rented a car and explored the island.

Did the "Secrets of Hamakua" excursion. The secret is you drive a while to look at something for 10 minutes. Just drove by the statue of King Kamehameha so did not have a photo opportunity there.

We did an excursion this day to Volcano parks which included the stop at Mauna Loa nuts factory. We loaded up the nuts for take home gifts for others, and then enjoyed the volcano site. Tour guide was great, and did a fine job of not overtalking, but tossing out great info. She was a local - so the outlook from her perspective on the issues in Hilo was very educational.
