We visit London often and knew we could catch a train from Tilbury to London. It was a mile to the train station. There were more than 100 people waiting for the bus (which no one knew when it would arrive or how much it would cost), only 10 taxis circulating around the terminal (we never saw one). We finally walked to the train station (I have severe arthritis and my husband has a heart condition). There were more than 100 people ahead of us trying to buy tickets. We were told later by the train staff that the Pearl was the biggest cruise ship ever in port and they clearly were not prepared to handle the number of people.

Tilbury is also an industrial port. We did the "London on your own" tour via NCL that included bus transportation into London. However and unfortunate, the day of our tour (Thursday, 5/23) also happened to be election day as well. Traffic was horrible due to protests, road closures, etc. What was supposed to be 6.5 hours of time in London ended up being about a little over 4 hours. However, we jammed in the London Eye, a scaffold-covered Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, to scenic and walkable parks, a quick pint and some fish & chips sealed the time. We hope to visit London again but with more time.

This was not the cruise we signed up for. First they cancelled 2 ports with no explanation, then the scheduled Amsterdam instead, then they cancelled Amsterdam. Then, they cancelled a third port in Norway. We spent 5-6 days during our 11 day cruise sailing and only had 2 opportunities to view the Northern Lights. The main reason is a strong storm that kept the ship in Alta Norway 2 days. While storms are not planned, a storm of this magnitude would have been know. Week a0
