The first time I visited BCN was in 1976, at a time when the city was in a state of decay. All that changed with when the city was awarded the Olympics and the soccer World Cup. It is now probably the most incredible city in Europe (at least at the time of our cruise). We enjoyed 2 days before the cruise and 3 days after the cruise. Lots of things to do; lots of good food to eat. The hop-on-hop off bus system is excellent. Attractions are easy to get to but require a fair amount of planning with respect to timing. La Sagrada Familia and Güell Park can get get crowded.

Love Barcelona, and we had a late night here which was a bonus. We did a hop on hop off bus tour as we have visited the city several times before, and just looked at everything from above - so much to see here. Sagrada Familia is amazing - book tickets online at home before you leave. If you like things a bit different and you have time, try Opera Samfaina for an absolutely fantastic experience!

We love Barcelona, came 2 days ahead of sailing to explore the town. Took the Hop on, Hop off bus with a reserved entrance to La Sagrada Familia, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We arrived two days before cruise to make sure we had time to explore the city. Loved Sagrada Familia and Gaudi residence. You have to get tickets for both well in advance of the trip if you want to see inside. Having tickets ahead of time saved us for waiting in long lines, which would have been a waste of time.

Barcelona has it all. Plan to stay up late! We stayed 2 nights at an authentic Spanish hotel near Plaza Catalunya (Hotel Continental Palacete) right on Las Ramblas. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to be close to everything and have the full Barcelona experience. We were close to everything. We also did a tour of the Gothic District and a traditional flamenco show with drinks and tapas afterward. Excellent. We had booked this through an independent ticket agency well in advance.
