I'm thinking it's probably a good idea not to store the luggage right on the pier but to take it to one of the spots close to La Rambla. That way, you won't have to pay a taxi 20€ just to go get your luggage.

Yes. According to Google Maps, there is one "Bags&Go" right on the pier and several "Bounce Luggage Storage" locations in close proximity

We used Locker Barcelona last November. It’s located about 1 minutes walks from the Airport Bus bus stop on Placa Catalyuna (The main square at the top of Las Ramblas). https://lockerbarcelona.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAlp2fBhBPEiwA2Q10D3ieCdC8oX8U8s2vLKyVPDVf53dSIJcdyxMvPlTfsL4HD57XXNlbWxoC6-QQAvD_BwE. I’ve also used BagsnGo too. We dropped our bags at the pier and they delivered them to the airport for us. The only drawback is that they didn’t have an office and the airport and you had to meet the van at a specific time to retrieve your bags at the airport.
