Portland is a small town and all of the excursions, even the locally based ones, were fully booked. We were in port on a Sunday so we couldn't even rent a car. We took the free shuttle to the center of Weymouth and explored it on foot. It's a cute town with several nice restaurants and pubs. We had a couple of drinks outside one of the restaurants along the river. It was pleasant and relaxed. The small fort near the port is worth visiting.

We took the free bus on the pier outside the ship into town. We shopped a little. Don’t forget the umbrella or rain poncho. We ate the obligatory Fish and Chips from Bennetts. Then drank a pint of ale. The fish is big enough for 2!

Smaller port with some shops. It was totally charming and a nice walk-around.
