We booked an excursion through Holland America out to Alnwick Castle! Spectacular! It's hard to imagine that the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland still live here in the off season! It has been in his family for 700 years! Incredible. It has been used as a movie set for Harry Potter and Downton Abbey! It was wonderful to walk the grounds and take a tour through the magnificent rooms! The only disappointing part of the tour is that you are not allowed to take photographs inside the castle and the docents were very strict about that, so I had to download pictures of the interior from the Internet to put in my photo album. But overall, it was an enjoyable day with beautiful weather!

Its not right to call it Newcastle as you as you have to take shuttle bus to Tyne and then the train to get to Newcastle, so much too long traveltime. We did not go there, too difficult.

Quite wasy to get to and from the terminal and the ship. Not sure if there's public transport to the port if you don't drive. There's a retail shopping park next to the cruise terminal.
