What a spectacular place. We took the jewels of the north tour through ncl and couldn’t recommend enough. You got to visit godafoss, which was one of the highlights of the trip. So beautiful and it leaves you in awe. Next we went to these sulfur pits, they smelled horrible but the sights were so cool you barely even care about it. Next we went to see some lava formations, very cool. Just be careful if you go into a cave to not cut your knee... speaking from experience. The port itself is beautiful lots of shops and beautiful homes. Make sure to bring bug spray!! I have never seen so many bugs in one place, flys go in your mouth and nose if you stay still for a picture, just pack bug spray. Loved my time in Akureyri and will never forget it.

This was an after thought. Got cheap Air fare to fly back to the states!! We wish now we would have stayed 5 days here!!! Fantastic!! The water is great. Blue Lagoon??? Everyone has to go!! You will not regret this experience!! The people here are super nice and food was over generous in size. We will be coming back!!!

We did no excursions here and were very happy with that choice. the city has a free bus and one of the routes takes you all around so you can see everything. we then walked along the harbour to the old town, which was lovely. They have done a fantastic job on the waterfront, and it's easy to tour by yourself. We had lunch at the Blaa Kanan cafe - which was good and typically expensive. The port souvenir shop has the best deals

The Jewels of the North is an excellent tour to take. Drive along the coast of Iceland's longest fjord, Eyafjordur and the Fnjoskadalur Valley - very scenic. Stop at Godafoss Waterfall. Continue to Lake Myvatn area and see the craters. Visit Dimmuborgir lava castles and natural arches. Amazing

The Icelandic people are welcoming and want their visitors to immerse themselves in Icelandic culture and activities, But… … immersion somehow always involves visitors getting wet! My visit to Iceland was on board Cunard’s Queen Victoria and consisted of 4 days in 3 different ports – Akureyri, Isafjordur and Reykjavik – so my husband and I had to pack a lot in to this short visit. Our first port was Akureyri, the capital of the north of Iceland. This city sits on one of the longest fjords in Iceland, Eyjafjordur, which holds quite a bit of water. Due to overcast weather – and my head cold – we were having a quiet day; wandering the streets and browsing. We found a cafe for food, drinks and free wifi, searched for the perfect Icelandic jumper (sweater), chatted with local trolls, and popped into the Hof, the centre for performing arts. Then as we headed back to the ship my husband was lured over to a Midnight Sun tour bus by the driver. They struck a deal and I, ever sceptical about these things, reluctantly hopped on for some sort of tour. On board we found 3 other Queen Victoria passengers who had also been reassured that we’d be back in time for sail away. And then we were all whisked away to God-Knows-Where! It turns out it is actually pronounced Godafoss, or Waterfall of the Gods; one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country, falling from a height of 12 metres (39 feet) over a width of 30 metres (98 feet). The Icelandic countryside is pretty but the gentle undulating movement of the bus, combined with my head cold, had me snoozing for part of the journey. When we arrived at our destination, the bus dropped us off as close as possible and then we walked to where the falls were hidden, behind car park construction works. Most waterfalls are generally awe inspiring but we weren’t expecting the majesty and might of Godafoss. I almost held my breath when taking in the beauty of this spot, and had to take lots of photos in case I never get to return to these falls of the Gods. As visitors, we naturally wanted to stand as close as we could to the water while trying to stay dry. But then we saw the trio of crazy kids with kayaks, who were intent on getting wet! So it was farewell to the falls and the Gods of fortune who favoured us on this unexpected excursion, and we hopped back on the Midnight Sun bus for the 35km drive back to Akureyri. And we made it in time.

We just walked ashore, which in nice weather would be lovely, however we got wet - and as it was a sunday, not a lot open, but we did find a couple of places to find something to take away with us.

This was a wonderful stop. I chose the HAL excursion, Jewels of the North. The tour lasted a full 6 1/2 hrs. We drove along the coast of Eyjafjorour, the longest fjord in Iceland and through the picturesque Fnjoskadalur Valley. Then we drove to the Lake Myvatn area and stopped at the Skutustadir Craters. After a lunch stop, we visited the Dimmuborgir Lava Labyrinth. Finally, we stopped at the geothermal field of Namaskard. On our way back to the ship, we drove though the town of Akureyri. It was a long but exciting tour.

Didn’t book an excursion. When we walked off the ship there were locals offering shuttle rides to the to Goðafoss Waterfall for a low price. The waterfalls are a must see.

Very nice place to visit. Took an excursion which we really enjoyed.

Another excellent town and excursion. The weather in Iceland is rainy and chilly - still this excursion to the waterfalls was great - another opportunity to see the countryside. Lunch was provided by a local hotel and it was much better than the first offering, not great but edible. A good bit of walking on this excursion; some paved paths and some on ground that is not even and rocky.
