Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Port Q&A

4.3
This will be our first cruise that does not begin and end in the US. We have never traveled to Europe. Can someone recommend the best way to get from the Port of civitavecchia to Rome? We will be staying at Hotel Britianna Rome after the cruise

We are also taking our 1st trip to Europe and not wanting to deal with luggage and train, I recently spent 3 days getting quotes from pretty much any car service I could find online. The most reasonable one I found was 140 € one way. The company has very good reviews. May want to check them out. The owner was very quick to respond to email, just remember it’s a 7 hour time difference. Mia Limo Rome. Lots of peopled recommend My Rome Cab and Rome Shuttle Limo but their prices were a little higher and felt I wanted to give Mia a shot. Good luck with your search!

we used viator for transportation services from airport to hotel, then hotel to cruise. Booked for return as well. They offer private cars, mini vans and bus transportation depending on your budget. Have to admit we splurged for limousine. The driver was awesome

I definitely would use private car service if you can. Absolutely no hassle and you are delivered to your hotel, cruise port, airport like a rock star! Great way to start or end a glorious vacation in Europe

If money isn’t a huge concern for you we have done that cruise twice and took a private car from our hotel in Rome to the port. It takes about 2 hours and cost about $300 US. We were taken directly to the ship and didn’t need to haul our luggage. You can search car services in Rome and look for one that is highly rated. It’s a flat fee, not metered. Enjoy your cruise!

We are taken the train from Rome to Port civitavecchia. There a free shuttle from port to train station very short ride, however nice not having to drag your bags. The train takes a 1.5 to get to Rome.

we booked directly through the cruise line just to be safe. they had a driver waiting for us at the airport

We booked a private excursion that includes transportation to and from port. Rome is about an hour from the port. It was expensive but we knew we probably wouldn’t be getting back here and since we are only there for the day we wanted to make the most of it. Plus we didn’t want to have to worry about public transportation taking up too much time etc. For us it just made more since to do it this way. You may be able to find an excursion that includes transportation from ship to hotel and I do think they have just the transportation alone. Since we only had a day in port we chose to do all we could and went the excursion with transportation route.

I don’t know that it’s the best, but I booked a bus that leaves the port at 9:30 am and goes to several stops in Rome. It cost 15 euros per person

We’re taking the high speed train which has a stop in the port area…$11/person

We are using Sergio & Partners to get from FCO to our hotel in Civitavecchia pre-cruise. We’re also using them post cruise to our hotel in Rome when we disembark.

We used Cab Roma. Excellent service that we used to get to the ship and later to the airport. Friendly, fluent in English, very courteous, and most of all, when we left a scarf on the van, the driver went out of the way to get it to us.To let you know how happy we were, we used Cab Roma ( Google it) in November 2022 and have booked them for May 2023.

While the train is definitely do-able. It does take time and energy and transfer and up and down stairs with luggage . We enjoyed the trains but be aware it is not a single train. We try to take a port cruise excursion, if possible at debarkation. However the train from port to Rome central is easy. The question is how easy to get to your hotel. Awareness of pickpockets is very important. Have fun

We took the express train to civitavecchia and then there was a shuttle to take us directly to our ship. Not outside like before but to the ship. It was 2 or 3 euro pp. We caught our train from termini station in Rome. Our hotel wasn't far but with luggage we took taxi to train station.

Just book a tour from the ship. You can do ahead of time / or contact your concierge on the cruise line. We got on a van from the ship. It’s a good drive from the ship We did it with a group of 12 family members and our travel advent did it. Enjoy you cruise. Now I think I want to do that. We love to cruise. We did a Western Mediterranean in 2018. On Royal Caribbean Wonderful trip. Keep us up on your wonderful trip 🛳️🛳️🛳️

the train is cheap, fun and pretty easy. Luggage space is limited so I would only do the train if you have one suitcase each. and pay a little more for better class

the train is cheap and pretty easy, get bus from the station and trains are frequent, you'll be in central Rome in about an hour

Answered by ants1980 on March 17, 2023

we took a taxi to the train, real easy.

Check with the hotel if they have a shuttle service or if they can arrange one for you. Whenever we stay in Rome we are able to do that. There is a cost associated, but we feel it is well worth it. Especially when you are hauling large bags.
