The train is the cheapest way to go, about €5 per person and the trains run from Termini at least once an hour, from the train station it’s a quick shuttle bus ride to the ship. Cruise lines shuttles are usually about $75 per person. There is some walking around the station and loading your own luggage on but if this isn’t an issue for your party than this is the most economical way to get to Cit.

If staying in Rome. Leonardo Express to Rome. Then an Express to Civitavecchia. If you are going to arrive the day of or the day before and spend time in Civitavecchia, then the non-express train with a transfer in Ostience. you can find videos on youtube. https://www.italiarail.com/Alternatively, for a private or semi-private car service, check out Mia Limo.

Private taxi/car/van is the way to go. We had 7 people and booked a van with Movartis Limo (TripAdvisor) that not only picked us up at FCO, but they gave us a tour of Rome and stopped at a place to grab breakfast since our flight landed at 7:30am and hotel room wasn’t ready until 2pm. This same company brought us to the Civitavecchia cruise port the next day and also picked us up from there a week later to bring us to the FCO airport. It was great only dealing with one company. It was a tight squeeze getting luggage in the van for 7 people but we did it. Also please ask if they use WhatsApp…it’s a free way for both of you to text each other before pick up day. Make sure you have cash for tips. We got Euros at the JFK airport during our layover on way to Rome.

the train from termini station to civitavecchia is super easy, but it's a regional train. so there's no assigned seating. And it can get very crowded and there's not a lot of space to put your luggage because if you get on late then all of the luggage space is taken up and you have to hold it in your seat or on your lap. also, the train station doesn't take you directly to the port. there's a shuttle at the train station that you have to take to the port or vice versa. On the way back, we hired a transportation company for like a couple hundred dollars of five of us. if there's a lot of you and you have a decent amount of luggage then that might be the way to go.

Forgot to add. We stayed in Civitavecchia and walked from the train to the hotel and then hotel to Largo della Pace. There is a shuttle stop near the fort. If you look at a satellite view on maps it is the pull-out just past Bacio della memoria di un porto (the small kissing statute)

I was just there a few weeks ago. We used Rome Cabs from The airport to the cruise port and then again to our Rome hotel. Outstanding company!!!! I will say though that I was a little freaked out when we got our luggage and went through customs in Rome and there were literally a hundred people with name signs picking up guests. Keep the name and phone number of whomever you use. And pay close attention to where they say to meet them. The ride back to Rome after the cruise was very easy though. We did pay a lot though for this service. I personally would never use the train but that is just me.

I have been out of that port several times. I took the train the first time. It’s way less expensive, just know luggage is a pain. I highly recommend NOT taking it back to Rome. It was a nightmare getting on the train because it was so packed with cruise passengers. Now I take a car service to/from. I book on Viator many options to choose from with varied prices.
