We are arriving in Santorini at 2pm in Oct. About how long does it take to get the cable car going up? If we book an excursion do they get us up faster?

There is no easy answer to your question. Depends on how many people want to take the cable cars up!!!! Most of the excursions do not use the cable cars.

Most excursions start at Fira, after you take the cable car up. Some ship excursions don’t use the cable car at the start but could still drop you off in Fira at the end and leave you to get it back down. The cable car journey itself doesn’t take long but queues will vary depending on how many ships are visiting that day, check that out. Coming back down is when you can get the bigger queues as it’s not as staggered as it is on the way up where you have people arriving on different tenders.

We were on RC and most of the excursions left (and returned) by bus or boat. A great number of people went up by donkey! Depending on the length of your stay. if you are going to return via the cable car, leave yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship, the line gets long!

Depends on how many ships are in…being as you arrive at 2, and it’s a tender, you might be okay as most ships are in much earlier
