Galataport sits where the Golden Horn, Sea of Marmara and Bosphorus meet on the European shore. It is reachable via ferry from the Asian side or the Golden Horn, the tramway, buses taxi or metro. We had traveled city own our own before the big bus tours and private group. So skip the line Easily . It was a big and busy city . Do not miss Hagia Sophia-Blue Mosque and Palaces!

I was surprised at how much we enjoyed our time in Istanbul. It was a bustling, crowded and active city, while appearing quite clean and well maintained. Had a terrific guided tour of the Hagia Sophia Mosque, Topkapi Palace, ancient underground cistern, Grand Bazaar, and a great local lunch.

Such a big city and decided to tackle it on our own and got ripped off by a guy posing as public transportation person at the billetmatic machine by Tram 1. Looks like he is getting you a 10 ride ticket and it only ends up with about 3 rides (he must keep the change somehow). Otherwise we did well going from Tram 1 into the historic part of the city and finding the metro that goes under the Bosporous over to the Asian side. We also on day 2 (an altered itinerary that skipped Epheus due to the Feast of Abraham) a Bosphorous MSC shore excursion that was so so. They did not even sail past the Hagia Sophia.

Unfortunately, even though it was offered during the cruise that we would stay overnight, we only were there for less than half a day and in the morning, where we could not visit the mosques. Very unfortunate.

We did a princess tour of a Mosque, arts museum and town area. The Grand Bazaar was closed but we walked around the area. We really enjoyed this, our tour guide was excellent.

Cruise ship took a day away from us. I had to move my excursion to the next day and wasn't able to go in the mosques on friday. The port of call wasn't log enough.
