If you're willing, and able to walk, it's great place to shop and see the sights. There were plenty of excursions available, we just opted for walking to save a few bucks. There were plenty of tours that tried to get us on board after we exited the port, which were cheaper than the Carnival offered, but they were cash only. Beautiful sights even on foot.

A ton of walking! We went and viewed the forts on our own. It was 7$ a person, kids under 15 free, military free. Some really neat places and learned so much! After the 2nd fort (el morro) we walked to the umbrella street ( not sure the real name) the sun was setting but it was still neat to see! Walked past La Perla to get to el morro and could still see hurricane damage. So make sure you have your walking shoes on and plenty of water!! Also phone work there!

Walked to the fort from the ship dock. Very cool port and we enjoyed the day. It is unfortunate, though, that we arrive so early ( 6 am) and leave so early (2 pm which was moved up from 3pm). The fort doesn't open until 9 and the shops not until 10 am so being there so early is pointless. The cruise line should consider different hours for the port.

San Jan was very beautiful, no significant signs of hurricane damage. Should have done tour of old San Juan, but did rainforest ATV tour instead, which was great, 2nd best excursion we did.
