We have always liked St. Maarten (visited several time previously) for it's great beaches, good shopping, friendly people and general cleanliness of the island. Can't go wrong there.

We took the water taxi to down town and found a wonderful spot on the beach where we got two chairs for $10 dollars which included two drinks. We had the best day relaxing and enjoying the good food.

St Maarten is nothing special, same shops over and over. Locals are very pushy, not a very clean place.

2 chairs and an umbrella $10 at the first beach you can walk to from the port. I def recommend going further. I have vacationed here and the beaches further are SO much nicer- if you plan to shop duty free for alcohol this is where you should! You can even negotiate in some shops
