This was a quaint town that did not provide us with much to entice taking tours. Walking the areas close to the ship allowed some shopping but there wasn't a lot to do right in port.

This is also an area where the countryside and national park are highlights. In town there were a few areas that had people selling their craft wares. I enjoyed that. Had some great end of season deals in town.

Small town and port, but very friendly. Taxis line up at the dock for passengers and car rental companies will pick you up if you make arrangements ahead of time. We rented a car from Discount and drove to Highland Village which was an absolutely beautiful living history museum. Right next door is a pub at a hotel with a great chocolate shop attached - Jill's Chocolates - a must!

Sydney got hit by Hurricane Fiona and was closed to cruise ships for awhile due to no power, but I believe we were the first ship back in port. I did an excursion to Baddeck, a little village that was home to Alexander Graham Bell on Cape Breton. Scenic ride there. Visited the Alexander Graham Bell museum and walked around the little village and the waterfront area. Had a nice lunch at the Freight Shed. Beautiful day.

Our excursion to the highland village was terrific. However our bus ran out of fuel and it caused us to be back an hour later than the ships debarkation time. Nothing like having everyone on the ship looking at you because you caused everyone to be late.

We went to Baddeck and visited the Alexander Graham Bell museum plus the small town. The museum was informative and very interesting. However, the port of Sydney itself does not have much to offer except for photo ops with the humongous violin.

We took the coal mine tour to Glacé Bay. It was excellent if you enjoy history. We were taken down into an old coal mine and our guide was a retired miner. Very eye opening! You will gain a respect for what these coal miners did. Then we were taken to their little town museum and treated to tea by the historical society that maintains the museum. Not a flashy experience but their hospitality was authentic and you get to appreciate what made the area and who the people are that still live there.
