We didn't stay in Whittier. After disembarkation, we took an excursion that went through the Anton Anderson Tunnel to leave Whittier. It included a visit to a wildlife conservation center, Potter Marsh bird sanctuary, and was supposed to go to Alyeska tram. Due to an avalanche, this stop was replaced with a visit to the Aviation Museum. Finally, they dropped us in Anchorage. Depending on what time your flight left, you could either be dropped at the airport or downtown. Since we had several hours before our flight, we opted to be dropped downtown. HAL had a room with some refreshments and also offered luggage storage. This was a great service as we were able to walk around downtown and enjoy the afternoon without having to lug our bags around.

Nothing there. Docked and disembarked.

If you’ve time get a bus tour through the area and see some of the attractions. It’s a small port. We took a bus tour that was tops. Our driver was very informative and friendly. Taking us off the beaten path, so he said, to see things that weren’t on the agenda. There was plenty of time given to meander around and take in the scenery, although I don’t think I’d ever get my fill of it.

Only disembarked in Whittier. No information was given about Land Tour and no one seemed to know anything about it. Train ride is 8 hours routinely—this information was not disclosed. Food and drink on train are expensive and limited. Our ride was complicated by the wildfire and ended up being 12 hours and ended with a bus ride from Cantwell to the Chalet which had no power or water but we could walk downstairs and a building over and use a port a potty. Communication was terrible. Breakfast and lunch the next day were muffins and water, sandwiches and chips—which was ok but it was only free if you happened upon it. No one informed us or directed us to the free food and drink so a lot of people didn’t even know it was there.
