Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska Port Reviews

I took the gondola to the cannery. Very photogenic and had a great time on the shore photographing eagles and scenery. I wish I did the crab feast, but I hiked back to the dock enjoying the old grove forest and saw an eagles nest. It was low key, relaxing but not very accessible for wheelchairs.or lido so stood outside in the cold rain. I took the whale tour here. Saw 5-6 whales before the captain decided to stop. There was NO narration, I had no idea which side of the ship to stand on or where to look, He did not explain anything about behavior or species. Only safety brief. There were no snacks or coffee offered. Do your whale tour somewhere else. These people hate their job

Enjoyed the shopping, watching the zip liners, and hanging out looking at the ocean.

Overcrowded, overrun, overpriced manufactured tourist trap. We really disliked this port - it's basically a zip line / gondola ride / shopping stop. Prices were very high for middling souvenirs and food. There were 2 huge ships docked that day, and we had to tender over which was annoying. And this little island was not built for 8,000 people arriving all at once. The lines should have coordinated better to avoid arriving on the same day like this. Better yet, NCL should drop this port altogether - it was really a waste. We did take the gondola right up the mountain, which was cool but there was nothing to do other than the Zip line (no thanks) once we got there. We also were upset that NCL's shore excursion desk charged us $69 each for the gondola ticket, but it would have only been $49 each if we bought it there. A $20 markup is outrageous.

Rode the gondola again, a bit expensive. Took the five dollar shuttle into Hoonah and went on a whale watching trip with Glacial Winds- which were excellent.

Went whale watching. Saw many whales and even had one breach and play with the boat. Did the sky glider and mountain forest excursion. was disappointed and late to ship due to not being able to get down on the glider. Too many people

We thoroughly enjoyed this port, mainly for the natural beauty of the location, the rocky shores (tidepools) and the historic cannery. There seemed to be a lot of great excursions, but we found the paid gondola to the top of the mountain not to be worth it.

Did a Whale and Drone Excursion that was separate from the ship but it was absolutely excellent! Shout out to Captain Josh, recommend it to all!!
