We did the gondula and tram ride and then went to town. The town we weren't impressed by very runned down. We thought the town should have been a little more presentable for tourists

Amazing! Hidden gem spot for nature lovers. Did Birds of Hoonah tour and Amy was amazing. Highly recommend if you love natural wonders. She did a great bird tour but also was knowledgeable about the entire island and all that goes along with that beautiful space.

This is a very small cruise port. We did a whale watching excursion so spent all our time at port doing that. I can see if you don't do an excursion it can be somewhat boring, as there is one restaurant, a Zipline (looks really cool, but very expensive), a beach, a gift shop/cultural center...and not much else. Some folks walked/bussed over to the town Hoonah which is actually populated with local folks, but I have no idea how that was.

Part of the rating for this port is unfortunately due to the fact that it replaced the Skagway which we was the main reason for booking this trip. But we did hear of the rock slide that took out part of Skagway cruise port, we did understand the reason. We made the best of that situation, but experiencing what we could of Icy Strait point. Our family took a ride on the SkyGlider, the gondola that takes us up the nearby mountain. At the top of the mountain is where the zip line starts (the main reason for building this gondola ride). There is a hiking trail at the top too, which was where my family and I went when we got to the top. We bought the ticket through cruise line (which was cheaper than getting the ticket at the port) and was unlimited rides (so we also did another round trip to get more views from the top of the mountain - great photo op towards the cruise ports and our ship) :-)
