We were in this port from 7pm to 11 pm, and alot closed at 8pm. We had dinner in the main dining room at our scheduled 5:30, and we got off the ship right after dinner (about 7:30-7:45). We walked around and visited a few shops. The thing that made this worth it was it was a much smaller place and far less commercial. Everyone who drove past us while we were walking waved. We went into the grocery store and people working there knew the other locals by name, so it had a more authentic vibe, it was more like a real Alaskan experience.

We were only here for 2 hours as one of the railway excursion trains broke down and we had some cruisers on it. It is a small town, we didn't walk downtown at all as it was a walk from the ship and didn't have time without rushing around to see everything so we stayed at the beach and enjoyed the scenery and sounds of the waves.

The day before we were to arrive at Haines, I received a notice that we were going to cross into Canada and more requirements (paperwork) was require. I canceled this excursion ` "Canadian gov't sucks". I did walk into town and found this a very welcoming town.

Did not care for this port. We wish that we could've stayed longer in Skagway.
