Cruise tips
The port itself is not much to look at. It’s basically a mall with the typical cruise port shops you see at any Mexico port (kitsch, chocolate tastings, tequila tastings, jewelry, etc). However if that’s what you’re into you get a little extra as there are some eateries and taco stands too. However, to really enjoy this port of call you have to get out of the port and even out of Mahahual (the tiny village that the port is adjacent to). If you dare to venture out you are in for a treat. There are some AMAZING beach clubs if you want more sand and trees than concrete. In other words, if Mr Sanchos in Cozumel is more your jam, stay in port. But if toes in sand in a hammock is what your after, take some time to do some research before hand and find the perfect place for you.
We love Cozumel! It offers so many different things depending on your circumstances. We have done grown ups only snorkeling at Chankanaab and a VERY kid friendly outing to Playa Mia. A word of caution on the inflatable obstacle courses: be ready for them to kick your butt physically!
Whatever you do do NOT stay at the Runway Inn!! Miami is just meh unless you are really into nightlife. Not much to offer a family with small kids.
