It would be nice to have a smoke free cruise and I do not think it will hurt them. That is what they said about the casinos but they are still around..I used to be a smoker and I quit over 4 years ago. For the woman who has asthma, the cigarette smoke aggravates her condition and it doesn't matter whether she is on her balcony or on any side that does not have smoking, if she is exposed to it as in the case of second hand smoke, it can be severe enough where she can have a severe reaction and her bronchioles can close up and she will not be able to breathe and die. It is a shame that the smokers could not empathize and be respectful of that. I was on the Breeze last week and it was ridiculous the clouds of smoke I had to walk through when going through the casino to get to the dining room or the Ocean Plaza. I went to the outside theater to watch a movie on my anniversary and got chased out by the smokers I was surrounded by on the deck. One smoker took it even farther and literally chased us through the deck because we moved away from his smoking.

Well, let's see. The Carnival Paradise was originally a smoke free ship, & that turned out to be an epic failure. See, here's the issue, keep in mind I am a non smoker, except for the occasional cigar,non-smokers love to bitch and moan about what they can't do due to smokers, but when smoking is eliminated, the people who complained loudest are nowhere to be found. Here in NY, hundreds of restaurants went out of business, because the non smokers complained for law changes, but then didn't go out to eat.
So let's see what the woman with asthma can't do....
Sit on her balcony, I find that hard to believe. A ship in motion will pull all smoke past her. So I think she is just complaining. Can't go on the starboard side? Stay on the port side. Cigar bar? Well...... The only place she has a legit complaint is the casino, although the smoke eaters are so strong they pull toupees off.
Non smokers complain, and loudly, but you can't smoke in the MDR, or near the buffet, or the theaters,so I don't know what she can't enjoy on the ship.
