Question about disembarking

Hi all,

We are sailing on are first cruise this Sunday (NCL Spirit, east mediterranean) and will stay in Rome for a few days afterwards. I already arranged transportation through the hotel, but am not sure if I should change the pick up time.

According to our cruise documentation we will arrive in Civitavecchia port at 06:00 in the morning, but I don't know if that means disembarking begins at 06:00 or that they have to go through some kind of customs procedure first. I tried to ask the good people of NCL, but I guess there was no money to be made from answering my question...Sad

At the moment the arranged pick up time stands at 07:00 so hopefully that gives us a hour to get breakfast and get down to the pier. Can anyone tell me if that's indeed enough time? Or would it be better to change the pick up time to, let's say 08:00?

Any advice or information is welcome!

p.s. not a native speaker so please forgive me any grammatical mistakes Wink

Thank you all for the information. I just e-mailed our hotel to change the time to 08:00 and, as suggested by BDRebel, emphasized that this is still a best guess.

Thanks again.

Usually there is some sort of customs procedure no matter where you cruise to. When I cruised in Rome, I had to go through customs. It wasn't too bad.

That being said, I agree with what @Yankee47 said, with 8 being a safe bet for a pickup time.

Id do 8...my memory of Rome was hot, humid...full of tourists, full of Italians...and Romans have their own time....usually slower...not a complaint..we were there for a week...We started to enjoy it, then it was time to go..(to Florence...just terrible)...things rarely happen on time...at least not the way most Americans think it should...so if you have to wait...well...you're in Rome....

8 sounds like the right time.

8 would be a safe bet (assuming the ship arrives on time). It would make for a more leisurely breakfast, but you may end up with a bit of a wait.

7 may be pushing it if Customs is slow in clearing the ship or if you are otherwise delayed in disembarking.

Whichever time you choose, make sure the hotel is aware that the time is a best guess. Perhaps they may have prior experience with this particular port.

Hope you have a wonderful vacation!
