PAY NCL WITH USD ONLY, NO EXCHANGE SERVICE EITHER

Another service done away with..just got the email....a/o 2/1/24 they will no longer provide exchange services, and if you wish to pay the bill in cash..only USD (good ol greenbacks) will be accepted........"sorry for the inconvenience etc etc etc".....cruise like a Norwegian indeed....but only with USD.....next step is to do away with cash $ entirely...which would be interesting...you need a c/c to do anything onboard, but I was surprised at how many people line up debarcation day (and even before) to pay in cash....

No, they made special arrangements for us. It was amazingly easy! YOU should really avail yourself of the service. I learned they decided not to actually publicize it. Something to do with a dispute between execs on mahogany row and ships captains as to who should push the cart. Those bars get heavy. They did however give us an extra laundry bag when I opted to push my own.

So I guess that means you won't be taking any of your gold bars up to the guest services desk to settle your account anymore?

I can see that. It makes sense. It is a cruise ship and not a bank. They should however use the currency based on their embarkation port. So if the cruise sails out of an EU port the ship should have everything in euros. If out of US then everything in US $. That just makes sense. Always room for change.

They do make changes. Being from the Great White North (except not so white this year) when we started we had to pay for everything in US $. That has since changed and now we get all our prices on the NCL web site in CDN $. It was a fine mess a number of years ago when we purchased CruiseFirst certificates on board they would only honour them in whatever value you paid when you originally booked. Well that did not work well when we tried to use a cert that was bought on a cruise paid with US $ for a cruise that we were paying US $ for. They refused to change so for our second cruise we had a paid cert we could not use. By the time we went on our third cruise they finally got their show together and honoured them at the converted rate. It took them a year or 3 to get it right but they did.
