Cruising to Canada with a DUI

My wife and I are looking at taking a group of family and friends to Alaska which either leaves from Canada or has a stop in Canada. But a few people in our group have had a DUI.

Does any know how or where to go to see if they can get into Canada?

There is a timeframe post DUI where you are not permitted in Canada. I believe it is 10 or so years.

Every person I have seen apply for "Criminal Rehabilitation" with Canada after a Single DUI/DWI has been allowed to return. Every person with Multiple DUI/DWI was denied. (It happens alot here, since I can see the Bridge to Canada from my office)

I'm good as is my cabin mate - curious for burtwlee and group...

Now I wonder if I feel safer knowing someone w/a 30 yo DUI won't be amongst us pushing back a desire to drive the ship...

I can tell you about a hundred years ago when we first started cruising I was absolutely positively sure there was no way anybody could check something like that anywhere close to "most of the time" or even "at all"...now, I know just how naive that was...as time passes, "SAM", (and the Canadian version) have become incredibly sophisticated and....fast....exactly how they do it is way beyond my paygrade, but I'd bet real money they can and do...and if for whatever reason they didn't, it isn't something I'd bet my boarding pass on.....

Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't ... roll the dice

Do they really check?

"a few people"....I could tell them where to go.........except they'd probably drive there....

My understanding is ....

You need to either apply for and obtain a TRP or temporary resident permit as discussed here

Or you can apply for criminal rehabilitation. Information on this can be found here
