We had a Holland America cruise cancelled in spring 2020 and opted for the 125% FCC instead of a refund at the time. We re-booked for January 2021, then cancelled that one due to pandemic concerns and re-booked for November 2022 because our FCC was set to expire at the end of this year. However, now we would prefer to wait until 2023 to cruise, so I am wondering if we purchase the "Cruise Cancellation Protection Plan" and then cancel, will we get a refund in cash or in FCC? And if it will be FCC, will it have an extended expiration date? Any insight would be welcomed by you seasoned cruisers.

cruise cancellation insurance question

@yankee, good job. Find a cvp or pvp at the cruise direct.
Having been thru this, I would STRONGLY urge to contact the cruise line direct, even if you used a TA (let them work on it too). We have discovered that, as obvious as it sounds, cruise lines arent insurance co's. They act as agents...all you need to do to buy it is click a box...its not necessarily that easy to get a cash refund, since they send the $$ to another co...mebbe one you've never heard of. Some lines will issue a FCC, but not for prepurchased ins premiums, and will let YOU chase the ins co...Grossly unfair...It IS a dispute you can win, or at least resolve... EACH cruise line may have a different policy..and you'll find no one is in a hurry to actually send YOU $$...(its the American way)or, you might be one of the lucky ones depending on that policy, and your options.
And, fwiw, if the person at the cruiseline sounds like an idiot, hang up until you get one with some intelligence. PATIENCE...you aren't the first to get caught in the switches...
Reach out to Holland AM or your TA see what they say. We never sailed on Holland of AM.,
For sure this is the best route to go.
