Carnival-One person in our group cannot go

Reaching out if anyone has had experience with this, but we have one person in our group that backed out of going on our May cruise on Carnival Freedom. There were originally three people in the room and now there will be only two. We do have the vacation protection insurance through them, but was wondering if it would be best just to show up and tell them that she's a no show or call our planner and see what they can do?

We had this happen twice - both times on Holland, as recently as Feb of this year.

The Feb cruise, the person that couldn't go did not have insurance, but still wanted to call and cancel to see if she would be given FCC. When she learned she would not get anything because she was inside the cancellation period, she did not cancel and simply didn't show. HAL called her when she did check in, she told them she wasn't coming. When we checked in, we told them she wasn't coming and they called her again. There was no financial impact on us as she was passenger #4, but it likely would have been different if she was #1 or #2 as those are the full fare paying passengers in a cabin. They removed her name from the TV statement and removed her OBC.

The other cruise in Nov last year, we had 2 cabins (we were a group of 4). Similar situation that the person didn't have insurance and needed to cancel just days before we were leaving. She called HAL and was told if she canceled the person sharing the cabin would be charged a single supplement and she would not get a refund because she was inside the cancellation period. Not being rude or insensitive, we asked how she would cover the increase in fare to her cabin mate. She decided not to cancel and simply no-showed. At checkin, the cabin mate told them she wasn't coming and was told to check with Guest Services. They called to confirm she wasn't coming and by the next day her name was off everything and her OBC was removed. There was no increase in taxes or fees to the now solo traveler, but it would have been very different had the person canceled. Even though they weren't issuing a refund, they told her the other person would have to pay her portion.

Hope it works out - sorry you will miss the trio.

Thanks. I believe that is what we will do. We have an excellent one and he has worked miracles for us before. We had read online that it was better to have them no show and let carnival refund the gratuities and port fees so I was reaching out to seek other advice.

I agree with the others. Call your PVP, they may be able to help you in more ways than you think. Sorry one of your group is unable to go.

Yes, call the planner. Is there a refund going back to this person or are they just forfeiting cruise fair. Having them no sow at the port will cause unneeded anxiety and hold ups.

I would call the planner and straighten it all out as soon as possible. The less confusion and changes on embarkation day the better. Best to get everything in order early.

Cheers
