Be careful what is in your carry-on bag entering a foreign port.

Per the attached, not a gun, but bullets in a carry-on bag may lead to a 12-year prison sentence. What is next ? Rubber bands? Wadded up little balls of paper and a straw? An eraser filled with chalk powder? A sneer on your face instead of a smile? An umbrella that Mary Poppins might use to float over the security fences?

I learned a long time ago, when we go ashore, SHE carries the bag, not me. This just proves how much foresight I had making that decision. (Just kidding Wink)

As a responsible, well trained firearms enthusiast who does travel with firearms(the right way), this, and any other story about travel and firearms irks me.

In 2023, TSA located nearly 7,000 firearms at airport checkpoints between metal detectors and x-ray scanners. Thats nearly 7,000 people who "Forgot" or intentionally tried to take a concealed firearm through a TSA checkpoint, which is a FELONY.

I could not find any data on how many of those firearms were in bags or on their person, but I know of at least 2 that FORGOT it was in their waistband at Buffalo-Niagara International alone.

It is also illegal to transport LIVE ammunition in carry-on luggage as well.

Post-9/11 TSA is an enigma that I still dont fully understand. I've had my carry-on bag torn apart over an empty shell casing keychain, and somehow these guy made it through TSA with multiple rounds of ammunition. It is not a job I would ever desire to have, so I try to keep my commentary on their abilities to a minimum.

I try to remember to totally empty any bag I vacation with before re-packing. 1) to be sure there’s nothing in it that TSA objects to 2) to be sure none of the lotions (or whatever) have expired or run out and 3)any miscellaneous stuff I acquired last time I used it is put in its proper place (that might include spent cartridges). I understand it’s easy to forget and/or become a creature of habit and then have restricted items… but stories like this should make you diligent. It’s like thinking the ship won’t leave without you.
