Norwegian Encore

May 2023 - 5 Night Pacific Coastal (Los Angeles To Vancouver) Cruise on Norwegian Encore

Quality family time

The cruise was great. We had lots of quality time together, which was the whole purpose of the trip and ship is huge. I was grateful that it wasn’t full of people I don’t think I would’ve been able to handle a full boat. The food was tasty. The entertainment was good.

Celebrity Solstice

December 2018 - 10 Night New Zealand (Auckland To Sydney) Cruise on Celebrity Solstice

Another great cruise with Celebrity. Enjoyed the ship and most of the staff was incredible. The captain was extraordinary. His commentary along the trip and participation in activities was always entertaining. The magic rainbows he produced at the waterfalls and entering Sydney were just spectacular. As with our last cruise, our room steward was top notch! We had amazing service and his attitude was great as well. I enjoyed every port of call. The on board naturalist did a great job of talking us through the sounds. My only complaint is the same with my last cruise, non-drinkers are practically shunned. It’s difficult to get a drink that’s not part of a package anywhere but in the cafeteria. I’m happy with filtered water or ice tea and don’t feel the need to buy a drink package but if you go to the lounges they look at you like a second class passenger if you aren’t ordering a drink. I’d be happy with a stack of glasses next to a tea or water dispenser in the lounges so I could participate in activities and serve myself.

Celebrity Infinity

August 2017 - 7 Night Alaska Hubbard Glacier (Vancouver Roundtrip) Cruise on Celebrity Infinity

I was apprehensive about taking this cruise because I had read so many mixed reviews about the ship and we had a lot of sea days but it was fantastic! The crew was awesome, the entertainment was good and there was always some kind of activity going on. The weather was fabulous almost every day. Alaska is gorgeous so I could have just stayed on the balcony every day and watch the world go by. The captain did a fantastic job of showing us the Hubbard Glacier. We stayed in C3 room 8154 and I had no complaints.

Cruise tips

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

We just spent the night and got on the ship the next day. Stayed at Hotel Maya in Long Beach. There were several parties going on so it wasn’t the best lodging choice.

Ketchikan, Alaska

I love Ketchikan! It is a darling town. This was my second trip and both times I was wishing for more time to explore. I hope I make it back! We visited family there so didn't spend much time touring. Took a short walk up the creek to see the salmon and harbor seals. Stopped for a drink at the Sourdough Bar before getting back on the ship. There are photos of shipwrecks covering the walls. Lots to look at and the bartender was great.

Juneau, Alaska

We had fun taking the tram to the mountain top and enjoyed the views and a short hike around the area. Had a poke bowl in town for lunch and headed back to the ship.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

We didn't do any shore excursions here. It is a very small town but we enjoyed it and the people. We tried the Bloody Mary's at the crab shack. They were delicious! I bought some oils from a really nice woman at the gift shop. Can't wait to try them. Then we took the short walk back to the sip on the nature trail. Make sure to do that if nothing else. It really is a short detour from the direct path and so much more beautiful!

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

We stayed at the Empire Landmark hotel and watched the end of summer fireworks show which wasn't planned but got our trip off to a great start. We bought tickets for Capilano Bridge park on Viator and took the free bus there. It's a beautiful park but too many people for my liking. I would rather go to a less popular site and enjoy the natural area. Took an evening walk at Stanley Park and wished I had the time to rent a bike and ride around the seawall the park is beautiful. I will definitely go back if I ever return to Vancouver. We had the day to kill after our cruise and decided to take the Hop on Hop off bus tour through the cruise line so our bags would be waiting at the airport for us. Most of the group ended up sleeping on the bus so not sure if that was worth it. We got off in Yaletown for a fantastic lunch at Yaletown brewery and then took the Skytrain to the airport since we didn't have enough time to finish the whole route. I would love to go back and do it again when I actually had time to get on and off to explore all the areas of this beautiful city.
