Royal Caribbean International has officially announced its return to cruising in China. The cruise line will homeport Spectrum of the Seas in Shanghai starting in April 2024.

In addition, Royal Caribbean announced it will deploy Anthem of the Seas in Singapore starting in late 2024. This is the first time ever that the Quantum-class ship will sail in Asia.

“This is the moment we – along with Chinese holidaymakers – have been waiting for. Our return to China is an exciting milestone that could only be marked with Spectrum of the Seas, which became a household name with Chinese families and travelers alike when it debuted in Shanghai as the latest and greatest Royal Caribbean ship in 2019,” said Bert Hernandez, senior vice president, International, Royal Caribbean International. “We thank the government of China for establishing a pathway forward and continue to be committed to expanding the cruise industry in a region we have sailed from for more than a decade. This has also opened up a world of opportunities to expand the variety of holidays in Asia, as another award-winning ship sets sail in the region with the introduction of Anthem of the Seas in Singapore.”

Spectrum of the Seas will sail a combination of 4- and 5-night cruises from Shanghai to destinations in Japan including Fukuoka, Okinawa, Nagasaki, Osaka, and Tokyo. Starting in December 2024, Spectrum will offer eight sailings from Hong Kong to Ishigaki, Miyazaki, Taipei, Taiwan, and Nha Trang.

The Quantum Ultra-class Spectrum of the Seas is a relatively new ship for Royal Caribbean, debuting in 2019. The vessel was designed for sailing in Asia and features an array of restaurants with regionally inspired menus and entertainment. Highlights include Hot Pot, Teppanyaki, Sichuan Red, Star Moment karaoke lounge, and original productions like ‘Showgirls’ in the Royal Theater. The ship also includes Royal Caribbean activity staples, like RipCord by iFly and a North Star all-glass observation capsule.

Anthem of the Seas will set sail from Singapore in late 2024 through 2025. This guest-favorite ship offers a number of amenities perfect for travelers of all ages. Highlights include SeaPlex (the largest indoor activity space at sea), the Latin-themed club Boleros, English pub Brass & Bock, and performances of the Olivier Award-winning musical ‘We Will Rock You’. Dining options on Anthem are Solarium Bistro, Johnny Rockets, the all-day Cafe Promenade, Chops Grille, Izumi, and Wonderland. Anthem of the Seas’ Singapore itineraries will be released soon.

Singapore was the first destination Royal Caribbean resumed sailing from in 2020. The cruise line deployed Quantum of the Seas to sail from Singapore back in December 2020 to sail 2-, 3-, and 4-night getaways. Quantum remained homeporting from Singapore through October 2021.

Bookings for Spectrum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas 2024-2025 seasons will open in the weeks to come.
