Oceania Cruises’ Marina Back in Service Following Refurbishment
Oceania Cruises’ 1,250 guest ship Marina has officially gone back into service following an all-encompassing refurbishment. Marina is the most recent of the Oceania fleet to be refurbished. Oceania’s eighth ship, Allura, will launch in the spring of 2025.
"Marina is the first – the original – ship designed by foodies, built by foodies, for foodies," said Frank A. Del Rio, President of Oceania Cruises. "We are renowned for serving The Finest Cuisine at Sea, and this is not just a tagline, it is a mantra which we have built the business around. Food is the foundation of what we do on board each of our ships, and globally, in the destinations we visit.”
The refurbishment of Marina includes the addition of three new dining options - Aquamar Kitchen, al fresco eatery Pizzeria, and a new all-day ice cream parlor.
Aquamar Kitchen (a now Oceania signature restaurant) serves wellness-inspired menus, with a hint of indulgence. At breakfast, guests can enjoy smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and energy bowls. Lunch menus include avocado toast selections, globally inspired salads and wraps, Impossible burgers, and yellowfin tuna tacos. Aquamar Kitchen is an included eatery, open for breakfast and lunch with no reservations needed.
In the evening, the outdoor Waves Grill transforms into a new al fresco eatery named Pizzeria. This venue serves freshly made pizzas, grilled Italian specialties, salads, rosemary focaccia with burrata, and indulgent desserts.
The new all-day ice cream parlor has been added to Marina’s pool deck. The venue serves scoops from artisan ice cream company Humphry Slocombe, milkshakes, and smoothies.
Oceania Cruises' newly appointed Executive Culinary Directors, Chefs Alexis Quaretti and Eric Barale were responsible for curating menus for Marina during its ship updates.
"The introduction of these three wonderful culinary venues on board Marina is just the start of an exciting new taste journey for Oceania Cruises. Of course, there is an incredible amount of work going on to prepare for the arrival of Allura next summer, but we have so much going on aboard all our beautiful ships. Eric and I are looking at every menu and every dish we serve, as you'll see with the return of Marina,” said Chef Quaretti. "The ethos behind The Finest Cuisine at Sea is at the heart of everything we do; it all starts with the best ingredients, the best team and a precise plan as to how each mouthful should taste – regardless of whether it's a lunchtime burger at Waves Grill or an extravagant souffle in The Grand Dining Room.”
Marina’s 124 Penthouse Suites have been completely re-inspired, with custom-crafted furniture and new closets/cabinetry. New carpets and upholstery have been installed, along with upgraded modern lighting and other guest amenities. Each Penthouse Suite has a restyled bathroom, with abundant drawer space and oversized showers.
Public spaces including Martinis, Horizons, The Grand Dining Room, and the Library have been elegantly updated with plush new carpets and refreshed upholstery. Specialty steakhouse Polo Grill boasts a new look with upgrades to carpeting, window treatments, and sleek, pillowed leather dining chairs. Due to the addition of Aquamar Kitchen, Oceania Cruises' signature pairing dinners featured in La Reserve will now be showcased in Privée, the ship’s private dining venue.
Marina and sister ship Riviera were the first ships ever to have an onboard cooking school. Each boasts more galley space and more fresh food storage than any other ship, and they were built around the galleys in the shipyard. Oceania Cruises has the highest percentage of culinary personnel devoted to the dining experience than any other cruise company, with one chef for every ten guests. According to the cruise line, half of the crew on board is dedicated to the cooking or serving of food.
