Norwegian Cruise Line announced that pop superstar Katy Perry will serve as Godmother to its new ship, Norwegian Prima. Perry will participate in the traditional naming ceremony and perform as the ship sails on its maiden voyage from Reykjavík, Iceland in August 2022.

Norwegian Prima will be the first major cruise ship to be christened in the Icelandic capital. For its inaugural season, the ship will sail Northern European itineraries from Southampton, Amsterdam, and Reykjavik, starting on August 12, 2022.

"We are so excited to welcome Katy Perry, a one-of-a-kind artist and worldwide sensation, as godmother of Norwegian Prima," said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of NCL. "We are so incredibly proud that she will be part of the Norwegian Cruise Line family and look forward to launching our beautiful, innovative ship with her in August."

Norwegian Prima is the first of the cruise lines ‘Prima’ class of vessels, the first redesign of Norwegian’s ships in nearly 10 years. The vessel will be the line’s most spacious ship, offering an expansive outdoor deck and a number of cutting-edge amenities.

Norwegian Prima (and upcoming ship Norwegian Viva) will offer Metropolitan Bar, the line’s first-ever sustainably-focused food and beverage lounge, as well as Mediterranean seafood eatery, Palomar. Norwegian Prima’s other specialty dining options will include line staples Le Bistro and Cagney’s Steakhouse, as well as newcomers Hasuki, serving Hibachi-style Japanese dishes, and Nama contemporary sushi.
